Perry is Perry is a Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback), her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. Her parents did not allow her to start acting in front of her family until she reached an adulthood stage, because they were concerned about the anxiety it could cause. Perry, who was too timid to perform in the high school, started to act at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new acquaintances. Perry left for New York, where she landed small roles in series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness led Perry back to California which was where theatre jobs were readily available. The Other Place was performed by her and her mom on Broadway in 2013. In the year 2015, she was alongside Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning Drama Anna Christie. It is part of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry was featured nine times on The Family, an ABC drama The Family, in 2016. Her father played her on the ABC show Scandal. In the same year, she was cast as the younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger model of the mother's. The role was selected through an audition, even though she had a close association with it.
